After pleading guilty on December 23 to one count of felony tax fraud, Congressional Representative Michael Grimm (R-11th CD) announced on Monday that he will step down from Congress as of January 5, the day before the next session begins, saying he didn't believe he could continue to be "100% effective."

Grimm's sentencing hearing is set for June 8. He faces up to three years in prison.

Representative Michael Grimm (R-11th CD), who entered a guilty plea in a tax fraud case in Brooklyn Federal Court yesterday, is scheduled to be sworn in as a third-term member of Congress on January 6, 2015.

But, as Business Insider reports, polit-watchers who regard him as one of 2015's best story lines don't see Grimm still a sitting member of the House when he's sentenced on June 8, 2015 --

A Grimm Reality

In a race that one Staten Island voter, interviewed by the Daily News, characterized as a contest between a "guy who can't speak" and a "criminal", the criminal won.

Conservative/Republican Congressional Representative Michael Grimm won a third term in a Republican-dominated U.S. House of Representatives yesterday, largely thanks to the Staten Island end of the 11th CD.

Some Democrats have speculated that Michael Grimm’s bare-knuckle re-election campaign is driven as much by his fear of federal prison as his desire to serve a third term in Congress.

Grimm's lawyers have moved to delay his trial, set to begin in December, to avoid the jury pool being tainted by Democratic opponent Domenic Recchia's negative
